Ponderosa Campground Cody Wyoming
Cody has a lot to see and do. We arrived after staying in Buffalo, and were a bit concerned about the drive, as the elevation was almost 9700 foot elevation. But it worked out ok. Beautiful scenery on the drive and the truck did not overheat.
The Ponderosa campground looked ok but our site was a little disappointing. It wasn’t really big enough for us. We pulled the trailer back as far as we could but the electric outlet was on the other side of the site and barely reached – after we ran it under the trailer. And luckily we had a third sewer hose, as that was further away than normal. And in our site there was no place for the DISH satellite to work. But they did have cable. Our next door neighbor looked permanent or long term, and had 4 frenchies that barked all…the…time. And our site was 2 sites from the main highway. But we made the best of it. I highly recommend to ask for pull-through sites – they are larger.
Our adventures included…

A trip to the Cody rodeo – John has been wanting to go to the rodeo for a while now, and this one was really easy to get into. We were told to sit on the backside as there were backs on the seats, but he had his walker and those were not accessible. So he talked his way into another place with seats right up front. It was fun, but we picked a night that not too many of them roped well or stayed on their ride. But there were some little kids that were awesome and fun to watch. It was entertaining.

An evening dinner show at the Cody Cattle Company – we purchases the trifecta tickets, getting us into the dinner show, the dinner and the rodeo, saving some money. The dinner was good – they were highly organized for a buffet that had to feed a lot of people, and they had a good offering. And the show was extremely good – very talented and entertaining. Not just old cowboy songs, but a little something for everyone.
Walking downtown – there were many good business to wander into, and we spent money in a few. The first downtown that had good things to look at and shop for in a while.
The Cody Wyoming museum – Buffalo Bill Center of the West – This was worth the trip. I enjoyed the natural history portions and the Buffalo Bill portion. We popped into the gun portion for a little bit – lots and lots of guns. It was interesting. There is also a art portion and an Indian portion.
Eating out in Cody Wyoming – we walked up to the Rooster Cafe and saw so much dirt in a window we turned around and walked back out. Locals agreed that was a good move. We instead went accross the street to the Ivy inside the hotel, which was good. We were told to go to Granny’s, and it was good. We tried the buffet at the Irma hotel, and I don’t recommend it. I understand that ordering off the menu is better.
And I was long overdue for a haircut, and had bombed out in the last few towns getting something scheduled. So the day we got into town I popped into Tangles (next to Albertsons) and Monica scheduled me later in the week. She did a great job for cutting my weird curly hair. And we had pedicures at Luxx just down the street from the RV park, and they did a great job.
This stop was after Buffalo Wyoming – and before Billings Wyoming
