Amarillo Texas

AmarilloAmarillo Texas

After leaving Oklahoma City and heading towards Colorado, we stopped in Amarillo for a couple of nights.  We stayed at Big Texan RV Ranch.

The staff in the office were very nice and helpful.  They escort you to your site.  Like most desert campgrounds, the sites were gravel and nicely kept up.  We didn’t spend any time outside as it was hot and windy.   They had a pool, laundry, clubhouse, gift shop, decent/so-so wifi, great cable, and it was a nice clean park.

AmarilloCadillac Ranch

Cadillac Ranch is an art installation consisting of 10 spray-painted Cadillacs buried in a field outside of town.  We took a drive out to Cadillac Ranch to see them and spray paint on them.  Fun place and easy to get to.

Route 66

We took a drive on Route 66.  Tried to find the “area” downtown that they showed as Historic Route 66 area, but after two misdirections – their website and the map on my phone – we gave up trying to find that area.  We just took the drive.  Tried to find “historic” downtown also, but again, not much there.

Big Texan Steak Ranch

They are know for the “famous” Big Texan Steak Ranch.  You see the advertising signs way out of town.  The park gives free limo rides to dinner, and if you don’t feel like going out, they offer free delivery to your site.
