Rockport Texas, outside of Corpus Christi
After leaving San Antonio, we stayed in a great park in the Fulton-Rockport area called Bay View RV Resort just outside of town. The park is very big, and more like a campground than an RV park, with spaced-out sites and lots of trees and a pond. They were nice enough to give us a great site on the pond.
There are two pools, one of which is for adults only. And everyone we talked to in the office was very nice and helpful. This is a Coast to Coast park, so our costs were low. There are a LOT of RV parks in the area. This area is a destination for RVer’s – and lots of fishing and fishing boats. Turns out our Verizon service barely worked at our site, so not enough to use a hotspot. They don’t have wifi available around the park, but it is in the clubhouse.
Rockport and Fulton
These two towns run into each other and have a small beach town feel. We happened upon the “touristy” part of town and found several cute little shops. There is just about everything you need in the towns. We were told to just head down to the bay on the road across the street and we could find a lot of seafood “shacks”. We did find one, but it was really busy and Cajun, which would have been a little much for John.
Padre Island National Seashore
Padre Island is a long barrier island on the South Texas coast – the park is 70 miles long. The beaches we saw were all able to be driven on as the sands were very packed down. Drive up and back up to the water and put out your chair and fishing pole. Some even took out trailers and tents. Being a Sunday, there were miles of vehicles lined up. There were a lot of grasslands, and we could see the dunes off in the distance. I guess I was hoping for more beach combing, but we never got to a point where that was an option.
