Monument Colorado – Colorado Heights

Monument Colorado – Colorado HeightsMonument Colorado

We took this trip from Sacramento California to Colorado Springs Colorado as our niece was getting married in Manitou Springs.  We have stayed at Manitou Springs in an RV park before (flew in and borrowed a trailer) but decided on this trip to stay in Monument as it is closer to my brother’s house, as we knew there would be a lot of driving back and forth for wedding festivities.  There really aren’t any RV park choices right in Colorado Springs.

The other plus of this Monument Colorado park is that Colorado Heights is a Coast to Coast park, and we just bought a membership into a home park in the Sacramento area, with this as a benefit.  When you stay at a Coast to Coast park as a member, the cost is $10/night.  What they didn’t tell us when making the reservation is that they charge an additional $8/night for 50Amp.  Although we didn’t necessarily need it, that was what was in the larger sites that we wanted to stay in.

Colorado Heights Camping Resort, Monument Colorado

Monument ColoradoThis park in Monument Colorado was a good park.  By the time we got to this park, we were really tired of the dirt/gravel sites, and this was another one.  And they REALLY need to do some tree trimming on the road up to the campsites.  We were not the only big rig in the campground, and if they are going to cater to us, they need to make it a little easier to get into the campground.  But other than that, it was nice.

As for the sites in our area, they were dirt/gravel and all lined up, like a parking lot.  We stayed at the top of the hill with a lot of other big rigs, including 3 Solitudes 🙂  The campground wound around a wooded area, and there were several areas with trees, some of which did have some bigger rigs and more secluded sites.

The campground has about 200 full hook-up sites and 50 partial hook-up sites.  The park has laundry facilities, a swimming pool (which was closed for repair, but that was fine, it was not swimming weather!), a hot tub, miniature golf, a playground for the kids, free wifi, restrooms, clubhouse, and more.

UPDATE AUGUST 2021 – We visited this park again and stayed in the older area as it was the last site available with 50Amp.  The sites are not as level and there are rough dirt roads to get into park.  Once we were in, it was fine, although it was a little tight parking the truck.

Colorado Springs Area

After the storm 2021

There is plenty to do in the Colorado Springs area and a short drive from Monument Colorado, and we managed to fit in a few side trips around the wedding festivities.  We did spend some time wandering the shops in Manitou Springs, a fun little tourist area.  Other fun day trips are Garden of the Gods, Pikes Peak, hiking, and driving around looking at the fall colors (as we were there in October).
