Slidell Louisiana just outside of New Orleans
One of my “bucket list” stops on this trip was to go into New Orleans, but we decided to stay outside of the city, so we stayed at Pine Crest RV Park in Slidell after leaving the Lake Charles area. The office was closed the two nights we stayed at the park as it was the fourth of July weekend.
Slidell is a city on the northeast shore of Lake Pontchartrain and an easy drive into New Orleans.
When we pulled up we had a site with a dip in it, leaving us a big puddle right by the door. Luckily the stairs swing out quite far and went just past the puddle, but it wasn’t so easy hooking up the utilities on the other side with the huge puddle. Luckily the rain slowed down so the puddle wasn’t so bad the next day.
The park was ok, although it didn’t appear there was anyone watching anything. Campers were lighting their fireworks in the park. I can’t say that I would be inclined to return.
We did hunt down a local place to try beignets in town and checked out the area.
New Orleans
We did take our drive-through tour of the French Quarter. It was already busy before noon – being a holiday, and parking wasn’t very easy. I don’t recommend trying to park in this area with a Ford F450 dually. Plus it was raining, so we just did a driving tour. But I was able to see it and get some pictures. Now I can say that I have been!
